Immature

imˇmaˇture
adj.

1. Not fully grown or developed. See Synonyms at young.
2. Marked by or suggesting a lack of normal maturity: silly, immature behavior.

Source: The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition

My idea of immature includes defacing other people's property in a lame manner (if you're going to vandalize, make it art!) and a new, un weathered board in a fence of old grey wood.

Love

Love is in this photo twice. The subject and the picture. This is my daughter Sarabeth, who I think is a lovely young girl, beautiful, talented and fun. I love her very much.

I love this photo because of the colours, the crispness, the capture of a moment. This is the first picture I have had enlarged to an 8x10 since my own darkroom days. I love it that much.

Tools used: Taken with my Yashica FX-7 on Fuji Superia 400 film, scanned and then colour balanced and tweaked in Photoshop 7.

You

I sat one night here at my desk, taking pictures of myself. I took shots through glass vases, from a distance, super-close, over-exposed and under. I had all the lights on, and none.

I like that my final choice out of all those attempts to hide is the one that shows me the clearest. Lit only by my monitor glow, this is me.

Food

Movie theatres have the most tempting candy displays. I actually got up enough nerve to go and photograph this open display. I kinda hoped to get one of the staff's hands grabbing a bag but no such luck.

I bought a big bag of yummy swedish berries! mmmm.

New

One of my favourite new things is the new releases rack at my neighbourhood video store (DVD only, actually). Oddly enough I managed to not get the newest new releases in the shot.

Animal

As a human owned by two cats it's a no-brainer of what I'd use for my animal photo. This is the always lovely Unita, looking suitably bored. This photo is from the first film I shot after my Yashica went in to be fixed. (severe light leakage)

Tools Used: Shot with the Yashica FX-7 on Fuji Superia 400, scanned and then tweaked in Photoshop 7 to match the print.

Scape

I'm not thrilled with some of these photographs, I know I can do better, but the composition or the subjects are enough to convince me to post it anyways. This is one of those shots.

This is the view from my backyard, and I think it works because of the mix of subjects. We have the brick of two apartment buildings and a leafy tree. That is such a Waterloo cityscape, I think.

Construction

Behind my building there is a small wooded area with a path leading through it. On my way to drop my daughter off at her day camp, we used the path and I noticed that one of the houses by it had been constructing a lovely back deck. This is their gravel pile covered by plywood.

I changed it to greyscale when I realized that it being a colour picture was, well... boring and brown. :)

Home

When I get home from being anywhere, I walk in the door, drop my keys on the table, my wallet on the bookcase and sit down at my desk.

I share the rest of my home with other people and creatures, and that's wonderful. But my home, my own space, my own place is right here at my desk.

Time

Rust facinates me, and I love to photograph it. There's so much in texture and in colour.

Transport

Transport has been a hard theme for me. I wanted to get my main mode of transport, my feet, but none of the shots turned out. This one was just a quick snap of My Sister laughing from my backseat perspective. (I like the different colours of the light on her sweater.)

Light

On the walk home from a Shopping/Bank trip I noticed this weird texture in the pavement. The light from the setting sun was transforming "quality concrete" into something interesting. At least I think so.

Water

Last weekend it started to rain, so I went outside with the digicam and my 26 things list in a plastic baggy. I wandered around looking for as many of the themes as I could get. This one is just pure Water to me. Rain run-off pouring down a grate, but stopping first to pool and reflect the trees all around. That's water.

Colour

I was refilling an Ink Cartridge at my Mom's place for her and loved the way the sun lit up the three bottles. I took several shots and I think this is the best one for the Colour theme. It was a hard choice.

Signage

Visitors Parking, only. 3 spaces. And some rust. I like.

Numbers

I figured I was going to just have this neon red two, singular, until I got home and uploaded the pictures to my PC and discovered a ghost.

Authority

My final theme to fill. This has been a near impossible theme to fill. I've been drawing a complete blank beyond a stereotypical Police Officer for the subject. This is my slightly different take.

This is the speaker/bell on the side of a nearby elementary school. I remember every weekday for far too much of my life being ruled by the authority of those bells.

Empty

Fairway Cinemas in Kitchener. I showed this shot to Meg and she thought it was anything but empty with all the lights. To me, that's exactly what makes it empty. There's so much going on, with nobody around to see or appreciate it.

Sunset

On the way back home from seeing T3 and Charlies Angels, I started taking pictures out the window of My Sister's car. Because I'm insane. And since she and Mr. Dorsey are insane too, they started to point out shots I should take. We ended up laughing and silly and it was wonderful.

Even with all that, I still got a neat sunset shot from out the window of a moving car. yay. :)

Weather

I had four different pictures I was debating between for the Water theme. Mike really wanted me to use this one because he likes the pun. I didn't use this one for Water, but I think it works as a different take on Weather.

Maybe that's just because I was standing out in the rain taking the shot. Hee. Still, I love the rivulets down the side.

Communication

I'm being a bit of a smart ass with this one. That's my sister's hand and her cellphone, which is in many ways her *cough*only*cough* mode of communication with everyone.

What I like about this picture is that I caught in the background more portable communication toys attached to Mr. Dorsey.

Little Things

I was really caught by the description of this theme; "The small things in life that make us happy". I finally realized that one of the things that makes me happiest now is my Yashica. It's the first SLR camera I've owned since my Mamiya took a swim in a river over 10 years ago.

Plus, it's a small, light camera compared to other cameras of the same age.

Footwear

I like the colours and the contrasts in this shot. My mom really likes it, so I figured it would do as my Footwear picture.

Monument

While out with my Mom for the day I was talking about this project and how stumped I was on a handful of themes. Monument was one of them. So she surpised me by driving by the Kitchener Cenotaph and offering to stop. I mentioned that I ideally wanted to use the gravestone of my Oma and Opa. So she drove me to the cemetary.

I got a number of very nice shots of their gravestone, but on the way out of the cemetary we noticed this lovely statue of a young woman resting on a bench (with bare feet!). I took a number of pictures, and I think this one is the best.

Note: look at her thumbnail...

I'm still deciding if I like this picture or not. No, I do like it, I just don't know if it's a snapshot or a "real" picture.

Dried Roses

Neat what you can find just hanging out in a home. These roses were a housewarming present to myself, that have been dried and now grace the top of a bookshelf.

Paperwhite Single

Decided one night I wanted to use the digital camera on something less practical than soap. Took a number of shots of the paperwhites that were blooming at the time. Crop in Photoshop, and voila!

Blue Light - 2001

Blue Light

One of the best parts of my old room was my glitter lamp. The light play against the ceilings and walls would turn my room into an underwater playground. Taken with a digital camera borrowed from my roommates at the time.
